She stubbornly twists her arms and legs around the chair she's sitting in to show him she won't leave until he gives her the job. He informs her that she is too young, her body isn't developed enough, and tells her she should go home. She then informs Doc Carver that she is his new diving girl. Sonora ends up at a county fair and sees Marie perform as a diving girl, who jumps onto a horse as it runs up a steep platform just before it leaps off into a pool of water. Instead, she slips out of the house during the night. After she is given detention, her Aunt Helen tells her that because of her behavior and the family's financial difficulties, she is going to be put in an orphanage.
It breaks and the cows get out, forcing her to be late. She has a love of horses, and one day before school, loses a bet that hers can jump a fence.
In the end, this is at the level of a simple watchable TV movie but not much more.Sonora Webster is a stubborn orphan who lives with her Aunt Helen during the Great Depression. There's also an over-romanticization in this movie. She is playing only a plucky one-note performance. Anwar is a beauty but there is a spark of innocence missing. Director Steve Miner can't seem to raise the level of the production. This movie has the feel of a well-made TV movie. Al helps Sonora to tame a new wild horse. The diving horse job is already taken by Marie (Kathleen York). Bumbling Clifford Henderson (Dylan Kussman) immediately falls for the beauty. Carver's son, Al (Michael Schoeffling) after he's caught cheating at cards. She runs away to ride the diving horse for Dr Carver (Cliff Robertson) in his carnival act. Her aunt is about to give her over to the State. Then she reads an ad for a diving horse rider. Sonora Webster (Gabrielle Anwar) is a head-strong orphan in Waycross, Georgia living with her younger sister under her aunt. Reviewed by SnoopyStyle 6 / 10 functional but nothing more
